July Program Meeting Meet Phyllis Davis

Having an appreciation for hand sewn applications, buy a need for faster results, Phyllis began to adapt those techniques to a sewing machine.  She found several books available as others have also explored this idea.  Hand embroidery, hand quilting, and braided rug making can be imitated by machine techniques.  The sewing machine can also produce landscapes with comparative results to canvas and paints through thread painting techniques. Rag wool appliques mimic traditional rug hooking.  Her favorite is fabric pottery.  Made with fabric wrapped clothesline, the "potter" (sewist) determines the shape of the pottery, using a "wheel" (sewing machine). One is only limited by their imagination.
